WILL THERE BE THEATRE PERFORMANCES THIS YEAR? Yes! Theatre is a creative, innovative art, so it is well suited to the challenges this year brings. However, the evolving nature of COVID-19 conditions makes decisions about performances extremely difficult. At this time, in-person performances with audiences (including concerts, theatre productions, and fundraisers) are not permitted, but our performing arts teachers and administrators continue to explore creative options for offering meaningful experiences to students and audiences. Some information has already been announced, and we'll continue to release information as it becomes available. Please consider subscribing to C.H.S. announcements for updates and announcements. C.H.S. performing arts organizations also have their own websites and social media where information will be shared. By subscribing to C.H.S. announcements, you will receive ALL C.H.S. announcements, not just related to performing arts. If you only wish to receive updates about performing arts, please follow our programs’ social media or check our websites regularly.
WHEN WILL PLANS FOR THEATRE PRODUCTIONS BE RELEASED? Right now we are awaiting approval to begin our season. C.H.S. Theatre staff members worked throughout the summer to develop several different options, and we submitted out COVID-19 plans and procedures outline for approval. Once it is approved, we will host a kickoff meeting on YouTube Live to announce our plans for the first semester. 2020 has asked us to completely reinvent our processes for teaching students in the classroom and for creating theatre outside the school day. This level of research, planning, and implementation takes an extraordinary amount of time, so we ask for your continued patience at every step.
When information is ready, it will be announced first on BAND, our student/parent communications app. Find more information about BAND by clicking on "Students and Parents" in the menu and selecting "Guides for Parents and Students."
WHAT ARE THE PERFORMANCE DATES FOR THE FALL PLAY? As of 9/15, we have not yet received approval for indoor or outdoor events, so we are proceeding with virtual auditions and rehearsals. While we are optimistic that we will be able to hold some kind of live performance, until we receive this approval, we cannot set performance dates.
WHEN WILL PLANS FOR THE FALL MUSICAL BE ANNOUNCED? We are very close to releasing plans for the fall musical. Once we receive approval from the publishing house that holds the royalties to the show, we will announce it. Please understand that every part of our process takes more time since it all has to be reinvented, and that includes the process of applying for the rights to produce a show. Here’s what we can share--the fall musical will be an experience unlike any other!
WHAT ARE THE PLANS FOR SECOND SEMESTER? We feel our best course of action will be to wait to announce any plans for second semester until we are better able to see what’s ahead. This is certainly a year of patience and flexibility for everyone.
WHAT ARE THE PLANS FOR STATE CONFERENCE AND INTERNATIONAL THESPIAN FESTIVAL? Plans for the Ohio Thespian State Conference and the International Thespian Festival have not yet been released. We expect these events to offer hybrid or fully-online participation. Students and teachers who attended the first Virtual I.T.F. in the summer of 2020 enjoyed a week full of workshops, performances, celebrity guests, and celebrations. Virtual I.T.F. also included college auditions/interviews, scholarship auditions/interviews, and the “Thespys,” the national finals for Individual Events. Because this event was so successful, I.T.F. is already exploring the potential of offering a virtual track to future I.T.F.s, even if the event is held in-person.
WHAT ARE THE PLANS FOR S.T.A.G.E. MEETINGS? Because S.T.A.G.E. meetings are gatherings are large groups of people who love theatre, it is difficult to hold them like we normally would. Once the 2020-2021 S.T.A.G.E. officers have been announced, one of their first tasks will be to brainstorm and explore ideas for continuing what S.T.A.G.E. does best--connecting our whole theatre family!
WHAT ARE THE PLANS FOR TRICK-OR-TREAT SO KIDS CAN EAT? Our annual food drive was the biggest it has ever been in 2019 thanks to a combined effort of all C.H.S. performing arts organizations. The need to support families in our community who deal with food insecurity is essential. Our S.T.A.G.E. officers will brainstorm ways we can still make a difference, but the easiest thing you can do is to make a monetary donation to a local food bank. This way, they can use 100% of their resources for fighting hunger. Feeding America. Dayton Food Pantries.
HOW CAN WE SUPPORT C.H.S. PERFORMING ARTS DURING THIS CHALLENGING TIME? Our performing arts organizations depend on the support of individuals, businesses, and community organizations to produce events and fund high-quality learning opportunities. If you would like to make a contribution, please visit our websites or contact individual program directors.
Additionally, although events may not be held with in-person patrons at this time, stay up-to-date with announcements about opportunities to support online fundraisers or attend virtual performances. Please note that by subscribing to C.H.S. announcements, you will receive ALL C.H.S. announcements, not those only relating to performing arts. If you only wish to receive updates about performing arts, please follow our programs’ social media or check our websites regularly.

Theatre website (www.centervillehstheatre.com), Facebook (Centerville High School Theatre), the BAND app (band.us/@chstheatre), and the S.T.A.G.E. club officers’ Instagram (@chstheatreco). The BAND app is our primary method of sharing announcements and reminders with students and parents.
