DIRECTOR'S NOTE

Dear CHS Theatre Family,
On behalf of everyone involved in The Theory of Relativity, thank you for supporting this production and, more importantly, thank you for supporting the people who were a part of it.  Most productions at CHS Theatre are in development for months before we even hold auditions, so I'm sure you can imagine the difficulty of beginning this show in November 2020, a time when we didn't know what kind of theatre we would be able to create and who we would share it with.
I was drawn to The Theory of Relativity because of its flexibility.  It answered a lot of questions I have never had to ask before when choosing a show.  If we had to, could it be rehearsed on Zoom?  Could students film themselves at home?  Could actors find costumes in their own closets?  The questions were about the survival of our art.  How would we still make theatre happen?
The early days of making The Theory of Relativity were entirely about rethinking the process, but as we all started unpacking the show, we also started paying more attention to what the show was telling us.  You'll hear it, too, in the beginning ("So I learn what's important, I evolve, and I grow.  I reach for your hand and hold tight."), in the end ("I am nothing without you, and I hope it's true that you're nothing, too, without me.") and in every breath and heartbeat in between.  The Theory of Relativity wasn't written in 2020-2021, but it's the perfect fit for a year that's all about the people who impact us, the moments that break us, and the ways we continue to grow.
Whether you are watching the show as a patron of C.H.S. Theatre performances, as an actor or technician eager to see the finished film, as a leader who spent countless hours reimaging what theatre could be, or as a parent, sibling, grandparent, or friend who shares in our joy and accomplishments, thank you for being a part of The Theory of Relativity.  We are nothing without you.
Sincerely,
Jason Hamen
C.H.S. Director of Theatre Programming

Many in the entertainment industry have called this time "the long intermission," a pause but not an ending.  Although we are able to share our production tonight, we are painfully aware that this is a privilege, and we recognize those artists who face a difficult or uncertain future.  If you are able to contribute, following are just a few local and national organizations to consider that support arts education and professional arts.

OHIO EDUCATIONAL THEATRE ASSOCIATION / OHIO THESPIANS
2020-2021 events will be virtual, including State Conference, individual events, college auditions/interviews, and scholarship auditions/interviews.  Ohio EdTA was also one of the first states to offer virtual workshops for teachers, and they continue to explore ways to connect students from across Ohio.
EDUCATIONAL THEATRE ASSOCIATION / THESPIANS
EdTA has taken the lead in supporting students and teachers as we all adapt to new models for teaching, learning, and creating theatre.  This summer was the first Virtual International Thespian Festival, and EdTA sponsored a national virtual workshop weekend for teachers this fall.  The Educational Theatre Foundation is currently focusing on giving grants to schools whose theatre programs are struggling to continue after 2020 funding losses.
MIAMI VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL THEATRE AWARDS

Due to the ongoing challenges with COVID-19 and for schools attempting to produce theatre this academic year, Dayton Live has made a proactive decision to put the Miami Valley High School Theatre Awards (MVHSTA) on hiatus for the 2020-2021 Season.  Your support helps MVHSTA continue celebrating school theatre this year and in the future.
DAYTON LIVE (Formerly Victoria Theatre Association)
Your support fills the gap between ticket revenue and the actual costs of providing diverse, high-caliber performances, education, and maintaining the Schuster Center, Victoria Theatre, Metropolitan Arts Center (home of The Loft Theatre), and the PNC Arts Annex for the Miami Valley. That gap grows bigger every day we are unable to bring live events to Dayton.
THE ACTORS FUND
Since March, The Actors Fund has distributed more than $16 million in emergency financial assistance to thousands of people in the entertainment industry. This money is helping people cover basic living expenses, such as food, essential medications, utilities and more.  BROADWAY CARES is also currently working to support The Actors Fund.
OHIO CITIZENS FOR THE ARTS
This is a comprehensive list of relief organizations, grants, funds and resources available to support artists.

A GREETING FROM WRIGHT STATE THEATRE

CAST/LEADERSHIP TEAM BIOS

Isha Atiq is a sophomore and is ecstatic to be a part of the wonderful crew that put this show together. She has recently helped stage manage Mirror, Mirror at Town Hall Theatre and Dracula at CHS. While not at rehearsal, Isha enjoys singing, watching movies, and hanging out with her friends. She would like to thank the CHS Theatre staff for making this show possible, her family for their constant love and support, and her little brother Nyle for making her laugh.

Nyle Atiq  is a freshman who is excited to be making his debut on the big screen at CHS! You may recognize him from Narnia at Dare 2 Defy (Fenris Ulf) or on the Magsig stage in Yearbook (Jack) and Bye Bye Birdie Junior (Conrad). While not at rehearsal, Nyle enjoys singing in symphonic choir and playing Minecraft with his friends. He would like to thank his family, Mr. Hamen, Mrs. Stamm, and Lulu, the best dog in the world for all of their support.

Katie Bowlby is new to Ohio and is proud to make her debut with the Centerville theatre program as a junior. She has appeared in previous out-of-state productions as the title role in Oliver!, Jane in Mary Poppins, and Mary Warren in The Crucible. Katie would like to thank Mr. Hamen and Mrs. Stamm for allowing her the opportunity to be a part of this great experience!

Esther Bright is a junior and excited to participate in a whole new version of theatre at CHS! You may have seen her previously as Abigail in Dracula, in the ensemble of Fiddler on the Roof, or playing in the pit orchestra for Into the Woods. Esther would like to thank her parents for their encouragement and support and her siblings for not yelling at her when rehearsing in the living room...every day. She would also like to thank the amazingly talented cast of The Theory of Relativity and the friends she made while participating in the show. She also want to thank Mr. Hamen and Mrs. Stamm for their dedication and providing this wonderful opportunity!

Annie Carter is a senior and is excited to be working on The Theory of Relativity! She has participated in set building for three years, and her favorite shows on which she worked have been Cactus Flower and Dracula. Next year, she will be attending the University of Toledo and will be studying computer science and engineering. She wants to thank her parents and sisters for their constant support and encouragement.

Niah Cohen is a junior at CHS and is thrilled for everyone to see a show that is different from what our audiences usually see. This is not Niah's first rodeo being a stage manager or prop master. In the past, she has stage managed Cactus Flower and Hunchback. She was an assistant stage manager for Twelve Angry Jurors, Fiddler on the Roof, and First Date. She also was a prop master for Around the World in 80 Days. The unique challenges of this show prove that it is vital to be flexible and a problem solver. Niah would like to thank her incredibly talented friends in the other leadership positions for being hard workers and enjoyable to work with.

Patrick Comunale, a sophomore, is psyched that you've decided to enjoy this show with us! He would like to take a second to thank everyone who's helped him make sense of the crazy world we're living in, especially his parents and AAD class. He's glad that CHS Theatre is still rolling along after his freshman roles as Gabe in First Date and U/S Phileas Fogg in Around the World in 80 Days. He hopes everyone is staying safe and still finding some ways to share laughs.

Ryan Ford is a senior and is excited to be an assistant director in her first show. Some of her past CHS shows she enjoyed were Legally Blonde and Fiddler on the Roof. Ryan will be majoring in directing next year as she starts her college life. She wishes to thank everyone who stood by her side throughout her high school life.

Emma Fry is an 11th grader at CHS and is so excited for everyone to get to see The Theory of Relativity! You may have recently seen Emma in Dracula as Mrs Harker or through her sewing room window while she made over 1,000 face masks in the past year. When not onstage Emma is a headlining designer for Dayton Fashion Week and a costumer for various theatres around Dayton. She’d like to thank her best friend Sarah for being the Sarah to her Jenny before she was ever Jenny.

Ava Gilliland is a freshman who is completely new to participating in shows here at CHS. Learning about theatre and working with making movies are both things that she has wanted to do for a long time. She has looked forward to helping with the camera work in The Theory of Relativity. This is the first CHS activity she has participated in this year, and she put a lot of work into this show. In the future, she plans to pursue a science career (such as biology). She loved the performances of Dracula: Bloodlines and the Waitress and is so excited to be a part of this team and meeting new people!

Alex Goldschmidt is a sophomore and is participating in her sixth show at CHS. She has been a part of set building since her freshman year, working on Cactus Flower, First Date, Around the World in 80 Days, and Dracula. Alex plans on being involved in theatre until she graduates in 2023. She wishes to thank all the friends she has made in theatre for being amazing people and can't wait to make more wonderful memories in the years to come.

Logan Gregory is a senior and is super excited to be a part of his 10th production at CHS! Some of his favorite shows at CHS include Cactus Flower and Into the Woods. He is hopes to attend Sinclair after high school for two years, then attend Wright State University. He wants to thank all of the supportive teachers who have helped him along the way and all of his friends who have been with him since the beginning!

Reid Hansen is a senior who is excited to be in this show. You may have seen him in Dracula as Renfield or as Reggie in First Date. Reid would like to thank his family for being there for him at each show and to thank Mr. Hamen for giving him the opportunity to create characters and have a fantastic time in theatre.

Lila Hilliard is a freshman and so excited for her first show onstage at CHS! She enjoyed getting to know all of her castmates and loved every part of the rehearsal process. She has recently performed in shows at Town Hall Theatre, such as Frozen Jr (Sven), Stuart Little (Snowbell), The Giver (Asher), and recently costumed for Dracula here at CHS. She loves acting, singing, and writing, and would love to keep doing shows here at CHS. The cast and atmosphere here are so much fun! She would like to thank her family and friends who supported her from her very first show to where she is now.

Michael Hunter is a sophomore at CHS. He has been in six musicals, five of them with the local Jewish Community Center and two with CHS. He wants to thank his grandparents who have always been there for him, even though he is a handful, and support him a hundred percent.

Ava Kincade is a junior and is elated to be taking part in her eighth show at CHS! Some of her favorite productions include Around the World In 80 Days and Dracula. Ava would like to thank everyone involved for making this new process so spectacular. She would also like to thank her parents for all of the support and assistance throughout this whole process. Thank you to everyone for making this possible!

Amanda Kingrey is a freshman at CHS and is excited to be a part of her second high school theatre production! Amanda is so glad to be a part of a unique and incredible experience with The Theory of Relativity. Some of her favorite productions include Dracula, White Christmas, and Into the Woods Jr. Amanda would like to thank Becky Barrett-Jones and Alan Jones for their guidance and coaching. She would also like to thank her family for all their love and support.

Sydney Korpusik is a freshman who is very excited to be in her first show at CHS as part of the ensemble. Sydney has been in many previous shows and a couple of her favorites are Junior Claus where she played Grumpo and Frozen Jr. where she was featured in the snow chorus. When Sydney isn't acting she likes to sing in Prime A Cappella along with dance at Masters Performing Arts Center. She would like to thank everyone who has helped her along the way.

Katie Kress is so excited to be part of the first ever CHS movie musical! As a senior Katie has been a part of 13 different productions at CHS. Some of her favorites are Dracula (Van Helsing), Cactus Flower (Swingle), Fiddler on the Roof (Golde), and Around the World in 80 Days (Narrator). Katie is a member of Symphonic Choir and Forte A cappella and will continue her education next year at Denison University. She would like to thank her family and friends as well as the cast and crew of this show for all the work and creativity that was put into this production.

Sam Martin is a junior and is very excited to be participating in his first musical and all around show at CHS. He has always had a love for music and has enjoyed all the new and different aspects and experiences associated with this show and its production. Outside of theatre, Sam plays the flute, drums, and acoustic guitar, and sings too. He also loves to run as he is a part of the cross country team. Lastly, he also loves to lead, volunteer, and hang out with his friends up at Fairhaven Church. He would like to thank everyone involved for all the time and effort they donated to make this show possible; his friends and fellow castmates for motivating him to get involved in theatre with this show; and finally his family for all their love and support in everything he does.

Jules Marzluff is a sophomore who's thrilled to be participating as both an actor and an assistant director for this show. Jules has performed in three other shows at CHS, most recently as Mrs. Harker in Dracula, but this is her first time in a leadership position! She would like to sincerely thank Mrs. Stamm, Mr. Hamen, and all the adults who worked prudently to make this project possible. She would also like to thank the incredibly talented cast and crew of this show, as well as any other person who helped contribute to its success.

Isaac Matthews is a senior at CHS. He has been in theatre since his sophomore year. He has acted in four shows as well as doing set build for  three other shows. His favorite show he performed in was Cactus Flower. Next fall he plans on attending Wright State University to double major in motion pictures and nursing.  He would like to thank everyone who has helped him the past few years in theatre!

Bricen McGrew, senior, is an assistant director for this production. When not working as an assistant director (or in this case, editing and making the shot list for "Lipstick" and "Promise Me This"), he's normally acting in other plays or musicals such as Over the River and Through the Woods, Around the World in 80 Days, and Cactus Flower. If he's going to be honest, though, Bricen says he spends a decent portion of his time just sitting at home, playing video games, and doing homework.

Sam McLain is a sophomore and so thankful for the opportunity to be a part of this production. Theatre has been a source of serious joy and comfort throughout the pandemic. Some (relatively) recent productions you may have seen him in include CHS’s Dracula as Dr. Seward and CHS’s First Date as ensemble. When not on the theatre stage, Sam is working on debate team prep (as well as coaching the middle school debaters), failing at improving his chess skills, practicing choir music, singing at church youth group, and of course wearing neon. He’d like to give a huge thank you to every single adult who made this possible, as well as his voice teacher Darin and ever-supportive family.

Rachel Mifflin is a sophomore and is ecstatic about being in her fifth production at CHS Theatre. Although the year has been odd, she has been able to work with an amazing crew, cast, and leadership team.

Garin Mouat is a junior here at Centerville High School, proud to be in another production with the theatre program. Last year, Garin was the understudy for Senior Sanchez in Cactus Flower, which has since become one of his favorite roles. Garin hopes to study political science and philosophy at The Ohio State University after graduating in 2022. He would like to thank the talented cast and crew he has had the honor of working with as well as his supportive friends and family.

Emma Nassmacher is a junior who is excited to be taking part in CHS' The Theory of Relativity. Emma is fascinated by theatre and has been for along time, so she is incredibly grateful that she received the chance to work on the shows CHS Theatre produces. Emma thanks her parents and her sister Lauren (also taking part in The Theory of Relativity) for their unrelenting support (as well as their ability to put up with her).

Lauren Nassmacher is a sophomore who is excited to be participating in her fourth show at CHS! Some of her favorite shows were Cactus Flower and Dracula. Lauren really enjoys taking part in the plays and musicals that the CHS Theatre puts on. She wants to thank her mom, dad, and her sister Emma for pushing her to participate in these wonderful experiences.

Sara Otero is a senior and is ecstatic to partake in her seventh show at Centerville High School. Some of her favorite shows she participated in include First Date and The Bad Seed. Sara plans to attend university in the south this fall to study digital art and creative writing. Sara wants to thank her parents and friends for supporting her in the past four years at CHS Theatre.

Brianna Pitts is excited to be participating in her fifth show at CHS! Some of her previous roles have consisted of Lucy in Dracula, understudy Stephanie in Cactus Flower, and various ensemble roles in Fiddler on the Roof and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. In her free time she enjoys writing, playing video games, and singing. She is thankful to end her senior year of high school with The Theory of Relativity and hopes that it helps everyone feel more connected to the rest of the world in a time where people are, both literally and figuratively, distant.

Jabari Pritchett is a senior and is very enthusiastic to be participating in his first-ever show. He likes all forms of pop music and classical music. He will be attending Sinclair Community College majoring in liberal arts. He wants to thank his friends and family for supporting him through his life and hopes he can express that gratitude in any way he can.

Emma Purnhagen is a freshman and is thrilled to be participating in her 16th show and 2nd show with the CHS theatre program! Some of her past favorite shows include Bye Bye Birdie and Frozen Jr. at Town Hall Theater, Narnia with Dare 2 Defy, and Dracula at Centerville High School. In her free time she enjoys reading, singing, and painting. She would like to thank her family and friends for continuing to support her.

Chloe Robertson is a senior and is excited to be participating in her eleventh show at CHS! Along with participating in theatre, Chloe has been a member of the CHS choir program for four years. She has also been playing guitar for seven years, and hopes to continue to grow musically as she attends the college of her choice. She would like to thank her mother, friends, cast, crew, and the directors for all of their work and support!

Ellie Smith is a sophomore who is thrilled to be a part of such an interesting project. This will be the third show she has participated in at CHS. So far she has been an understudy in Around the World in 80 Days and a stage manager for Dracula. She is incredibly grateful for everyone who made theatre possible this year, and she’s had so much fun helping put this show together.

Lillian Smith is a senior who is excited to be participating in her ninth show at CHS! Her favorite moments have been as Dance Captain in Legally Blonde and as run crew for Fiddler on the Roof. She thanks everyone involved for making her time with CHS Theatre so amazing. Outside of theatre Lillian runs with Centerville Girls Cross Country and dances at Terre’s Dance Workshop. She is an NHS Officer and Key, STAGE, and French Club member. Lillian is the Social Media Director for Food For All, a service group she has been a part of for 6 years. She will attend the College-Conservatory of Music at University of Cincinnati to study media production and business then pursue a career in the film industry. Lillian hopes you will see her on stage accepting an Oscar, at the presidential inauguration in thirty years, or both.

Camryn Smith is a senior and is so excited to be a part of her eighth and final show at CHS. In the fall, Camryn will be attending Ohio University to major in forensic chemistry. You may have seen Camryn as the assistant director to Dracula, Player #2 in Around The World In 80 Days, and in the ensemble for Fiddler on the Roof. When Camryn is not on stage, she enjoys reading, singing, dancing, and listening to crime podcasts. Camryn would like to take a moment to thank Mr. Hamen for all the opportunities and trust he gave her throughout the past four years. Camryn would also like to thank her family for all their support with her theatre career. And a final thank you to the audience for supporting the arts during these hard times.

Lena Stemmer is a sophomore and is ecstatic to participate in her first show at CHS! Some of her favorite shows have been Frozen and The NeverEnding Story. She thanks everyone at CHS Theatre for giving her the opportunity to be a part of this production and hopes everyone enjoys it.

Riley Weeks is a senior, and words cannot describe how excited and happy she is to be part of her eighth and final show at CHS. Some of her favorite roles have been Fairy May U/S in The Curious Savage and Bielke in Fiddler on the Roof. She'd like to thank Mr. Hamen and Mrs. Stamm for being amazing and encouraging, her theatre family for being amazing friends and always making her smile, and her bio family for supporting her theatre shenanigans. When she's not doing theatre, Riley is usually writing, drawing, and singing. She plans on studying forensic psychology after high school!
