OUR PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY
Our program is designed to provide quality opportunities for students ranging from our main stage season, student projects, and events that support CHS, the Centerville School District, and the community. We choose shows of varying genres and styles that not every high school does and that will challenge our students. Students are trained and empowered to manage, build, and run productions whenever possible. Through careful management of fiscal resources, we provide budgets for all productions, maintain an up-to-date, complete inventory of equipment, and have the ability to provide financial assistance to students for special activities. We feel students deserve a safe, caring, encouraging environment in which to grow as performers/technicians/musicians, as well as people. Theatre skills are life skills. When students are involved in theatre, they are developing many traits: communication, teamwork, problem-solving, creativity, independence, time management, empathy, accepting feedback, leadership, work ethic, moving forward from failure, and being proud of success. Nearly 200 students are involved in theatre classes throughout the day, including introductory courses in performance and theatre technology, as well as advanced, yearlong classes in acting, directing, design, and technology. Centerville Theatre students also provide technical support for all performances (curricular, community, and professional) held in the Performing Arts Center each year.
