THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG (HIGH SCHOOL EDITION) November 13-15, 7:30PM From publisher Dramatists Play Service: Welcome to opening night of the Cornley Drama Society’s newest production, The Murder at Haversham Manor, where things are quickly going from bad to utterly disastrous. This 1920s whodunit has everything you never wanted in a show—an unconscious leading lady, a corpse that can’t play dead, and actors who trip over everything (including their lines). Nevertheless, the accident-prone thespians battle against all odds to make it through to their final curtain call, with hilarious consequences! Part Monty Python, part Sherlock Holmes, this Olivier Award–winning comedy, straight from Broadway, is a global phenomenon that’s guaranteed to leave you aching with laughter!
KING KIRBY January 29-31, 7:30PM King Kirby follows the life of artist Jack Kirby, the so-called “King of Comics,” from his childhood on the streets of New York through his experience in World War II, and his career as a comic book creator. Kirby was part of the creation of hundreds of comic book characters, including Captain America, the Incredible Hulk, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men. Kirby’s impact on comic book history is incredibly significant due to the proliferation of his work, but his story as a creator is often unknown. King Kirby gives credit where it’s due and celebrates the life of a remarkable artist.
ZOMBIE PROM April 24-25 & May 1-2, 7:30PM Zombie Prom takes place at Enrico Fermi High School (Fermi was called the “architect of the atomic bomb”). It centers on Toffee, a student at the school who falls for the new rebel, Jonny. When the adults in her life pressure Toffee to break up with Jonny, he rides his motorcycle into the nuclear power plant and dies. Time passes as Toffee mourns, until Jonny returns to EFHS–as a nuclear zombie! Will Toffee take Jonny back in his new green form? Will Jonny be allowed to take Toffee to the prom? Zombie Prom is an off-Broadway satire of 1950s culture, especially the contrast of strict morality against a world on the verge of destroying itself: McCarthyism meets the Atomic Age. It fits with other shows that share mid-century satire, outcast characters, or icon status like Little Shop of Horrors, Hairspray, Cry-Baby, and The Addams Family.
